Intermediate Cloud Engineer (2-4 years)
Description:
Cloud Engineers work with Project Managers, Application Owners, Business Owners,
Cybersecurity Engineers, and Data Administrators to design, build, test and maintain cloud
solutions that are leveraged by county employees, external partners, and Fairfax County
residents. They are responsible for developing and enforcing governance standards for cloud
resources, managing Accounts/Subscriptions for cloud environments, delegating access to cloud
resources, deploying enterprise-scale cloud IaaS/PaaS/SaaS solutions, and providing technical
troubleshooting and guidance for cloud solutions. Cloud Engineers should exhibit
comprehensive knowledge of Role-based Access Controls, Least Privilege Necessary security
models, Policy-based management, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) deployments, and Hierarchical
Management structures. They configure and manage virtual networking, virtual computing,
enterprise applications, storage accounts, and cloud infrastructure monitoring solutions across a
variety of cloud environments in support of a Hybrid-cloud architecture. Cloud Engineers work
in conjunction with Cybersecurity Engineers to develop and implement appropriate security
controls, following a least-privilege necessary methodology.

Intermediate Virtual and Thin-client Environments - Virtual Server Engineer (2-4 years)
Description:
Virtual Server Engineer will work with County staff, administering a network of Windows and
Linux Servers. Installs VMWare server, RedHat, Azure VM, and MS HyperV or other; integrates
with infrastructure environment. Manage system user accounts and profiles, ensure system
security, and tune system parameters.

Intermediate Wireless Device Analyst (2-4 years)
Description:
Improve the overall availability of wireless devices and services to County agencies. Serve as
project or program manager on large-scale deployments of wireless devices (e.g. various
devices: Smart Phones, tablets and other wireless devices. Develop appropriate device and
service configurations and work with agency staff to establish the most efficient schedules and
methods for wireless product orders and deliveries. Configure and deploy Mobile Device
Management (MDM) and Mobile Application Management (MAM) policies, with preferential
experience in Microsoft Intune, in accordance with Fairfax County, Agency and/or External
requirements. Design secure BYOD solutions. Provide technical guidance to both DIT and agency
personnel. Design and implement County specific vendor web-portals to provide access to
billing, service and support information. Example mobile device management tools: Microsoft
Intune, Jamf, ManageEngine, Airwatch, other.

Intermediate SAN Engineer (2-4 years)
Description:
Provide daily support and participation with the Storage management team on the open
systems platform. Configure and troubleshoot storage related problems including Cisco SAN
Switches. Maintain and optimize the County’s SAN infrastructure for reliability and efficiency.
(NetApp, StorageGRID, VAST, ) infrastructure. Design and implement storage solution that
complement HCI capabilities. Analyze customer’s needs and recommend viable solutions.

Intermediate Web Server Specialist (2-4 years)
Description:
Web Server Architect will perform activities related to the installation, configuration,
management, maintenance and technical support of Web servers, application servers, and
other supported platforms. County standard is for Windows platform and ASP.NET; This work
requires knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, XML, .NET 5+, ASP.NET, C#, and Visual Studio .NET.
Experience with cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS),
including Platform as a Service (PaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Software as a
Service (SaaS) offerings. Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including Git, Docker, and
Kubernetes, as well as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform and Ansible, is
essential. Knowledge of API development and Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) is
also highly desirable..

Intermediate Database Management Support (2-4 years)
Description:
Provide the following expert services for enterprise implementation, maintenance, and tuning
databases in both the UNIX and Windows environments. Able to assist in the development of
the enterprise database server architecture, install, configure, and maintain the Oracle RDBMS
and related communications software. Able to monitor server performance and tune database
instance parameters for maximum database performance. Oracle is the database supporting
SAP, so specific expertise in SAP with Oracle may be required for certain engagements.

Senior Network Engineer (6+ yrs exp)
Description:
Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, VPN, SD-WAN / WAN / MAN / SDN);
Configure and install (physical and VM based) software, servers, routers, firewalls and other
network devices; Monitor network performance and integrity; Tier 3 Support - Resolve issues
tiers of support have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure; Automate
tasks and monitor their effectiveness; Professional certifications are preferred (e.g. CCNP, CCDP,
CCIE, etc.); Solid background in network administration and architecture in a wired and wireless

Description:

Senior Infrastructure Construction Coordinator (5+ years)
Description:
Manages and supports voice/data cable and service installation of capital projects performed by
contractors/vendors. Provides Department of Information Technology (DIT) Telecommunication
support to county agencies on renovation projects. Ensures optimal performance of voice
communication systems, related peripherals, messaging systems, and cable plant infrastructure.
Conducts research, field trials, and provide evaluations, recommendations, and standards for
county communication infrastructure. Participates in design review meetings and provides
comments to meet DIT requirements related to communication infrastructure. Prepares design
and technical specifications, project plans, along with project expenditure for DIT infrastructure.
Accountable for coordinating work with various contractors, general contractors, architecture,
and Capital Facilities project manager. Responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and enforcing the
installation of infrastructure systems. Attends virtual and on-site construction project meetings.
On behalf of DIT, sign off on renovation and Capital Facilities construction documents, and
drawings. Stays abreast of IT industry innovations and regulatory requirements.
 
Intermediate Infrastructure Construction Coordinator (2-4 years)
Description:
Provides support on infrastructure telecommunications systems and construction design
projects. Works with various County agencies such as DPWES Capital Facilities, FMD, NCS, Police
and Fire Department for design of county-wide telecom cabling and circuit network
interconnecting county sites and building technology infrastructure. This includes in-building
wired and wireless plant, building automation systems,'loT' (internet of things widgets), and
associated capabilities. Works with county agency sponsors for requirements supporting Smart
building/modern technology capabilities, and, with construction architects and engineers,
subcontractors, and project managers for implementation. Collaborates with all divisions in DIT
to ascertain technology capabilities and equipment that will be implemented in county facilities
and develop requirements. Coordinates and provides operational and technical direction over
the county's telephony service providers and associated contracts for telecom projects.
Participates in design planning for advancing communications capabilities with infrastructure to
support voice, data, audio-video for modern smart building technologies and building
automated systems (BAS) and integration with wireless and platform infrastructure. Develops
design specifications and project plans and projects associated expenditure plans. Develops
technical standards and specifications for design and installation of IT building infrastructure,
and on-behalf of DIT, signs off on blueprints and other construction documents. Oversees and
inspects installation of technology plant and BAS systems in the construction project. Manages
and prioritizes the work of contractors. Stays abreast of IT industry innovation. Responds to
maintenance requirements and emergency operations activation.
 
Intermediate Computer Technician (2-4 years)
Description:
"Minimum/General Experience: Experience and training in desktop and laptop trouble-shooting
(Intel). Additional experience working with and troubleshooting peripheral devices. Minimum
two years’ experience. Formal specialized training may be substituted on the basis of one
month’s training for one month’s experience. Dell Latitude laptops, HP desktops and laptops
(subject to change) and A+ certifications required.
Functional Responsibility: Performs on-site or shop based (stationary) computer
troubleshooting and problem resolution, Computer assembly, hardware repair, basic
networking, operating system and application software installation and troubleshooting.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma."
 
Technical Project Manager (2-4 years)
Description:
Conducts planning, coordination, and tracking of information technology projects and full
lifecycle tasks; examples include assess customer requirements and advise on appropriate
solutions; identify technology solutions and conduct assessment of fit; identify resources;
facilitate and direct multidisciplinary teams; plan, develop schedules using project management
systems, assess risks, track progress, develop dashboards, and coordinate resources; manage
solution vendor/implementer tasks, estimate costs and manage project budgets; report on
project progress. Provides analysis and consultation and works with county IT staff in
development of appropriate supporting infrastructure and all integration issues to include
security and recovery.
 
Technology Trainer/Writer (2-4 years)
Description:
Develops training plans and materials, and user documentation that use both generic and job
specific examples. Create step-by-step guided instructions and practice examples that hone
participants’ skill and confidence using the intended application. Conduct technology training
sessions; be able to resolve level-one computer glitches that occur in a lab environment security
communication plans as required and directed by designated County staff. Also translates
designs and programs to documentation
 
Administrative Analyst (2-4 years)
Description:
Education: Undergraduate, advance degree, professional certification or equivalent combination
(education/experience). Basic Experience: Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in the
government or IT sector, specifically focused on overseeing and enhancing organizational
administrative functions. This includes responsibilities such as maintaining records, analyzing
data, managing budgets, and implementing process improvements to drive operational
efficiency. Sample Duties: Develops requirements from a project’s inception to its conclusion in
the subject matter area for communications and/or information technology systems. Perform
technical analysis and evaluation, preparation of technical specifications, system budgets,
project timelines and benchmarks and with the preparation of recommendations for system
improvements, optimization, development, and/or maintenance efforts. Provide overall
program management services including making presentations to national, state and local
officials
 
Documentation Specialist (2-4 years)
Description:
Education: Associates degree in business or related field, or equivalent combination
(education/experience). Basic Experience: two (2) years’ experience in preparing technical
documentation, including conducting research in specific technology, information systems, and
communications specialties. Sample Duties: Coordinate and participate in collection,
interpretation, writing and dissemination of technical documentation in support of
communications and information systems projects; establish procedures for data acquisition
and administration; translate technical information into clear readable documents to be used by
technical and non-technical audiences. Write and edit procedural manuals for users; create and
maintain on-line tutorials and learning materials.
